Ithaca College Won’t Allow Students From States With High Numbers of COVID-19 Cases on Campus

Ithaca College said it will not allow students from states with high numbers of COVID-19 cases to move to campus or take in-person classes this coming fall.23311 1

The college said it has made this decision in line with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s June 24 executive order requiring individuals traveling into New York State from states with a high incidence of COVID-19 transmission to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival in New York. The college said it can’t manage quarantines for large numbers either on or off campus, so it has mandated that students from affected states take classes remotely until their state is removed from the New York mandatory quarantine list.

“We know that this is greatly disappointing, and we hope that continued practicing of appropriate preventive measures will lower the spread of COVID-19 and allow these states to be removed from the list,” the college said in a statement.

Ithaca College will begin the academic year on Sept. 8, with remote, hybrid and in-person instruction, with the in-person portion phased in over a period of several weeks. Students are urged to voluntarily quarantine at home for 14 days and to be tested, if possible, for COVID-19, before coming to campus. All students will also be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival in college.
