The University of Vermont (UVM) is slated to slash 23 programs in the College of Arts and Sciences in an effort to cut costs, VTDigger reported.
UVM will remove its geology, religion and classics departments. Some departments will be combined. A School of the Arts will incorporate the former art and art history, music, and theatre and dance departments. A School of Languages will consolidate Asian languages and literatures, German and Russian, and romance languages and cultures.
In past years, the college – which serves 4,500 of UVM’s total 12,000 students– has had budget shortfalls and declining enrollment.
