HACU Conference To Highlight Success Stories
The 20th Annual Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities conference, held later this month, will focus on increasing the success of Hispanic students.
The conference, “20 Years of Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success,” will include a town hall meeting that will address what it means to be a Hispanic-Serving Institution, the ramifications of The DREAM Act, strengthening teacher education programs and the recruitment of Hispanic teachers.
The conference will also highlight successful programs and initiatives of HACU member institutions such as helping to identify graduate study opportunities for Hispanic students and graduates; promoting strategic alliances for HACU member institutions and government and private-sector organizations; and exploring funding initiatives to help Hispanic students. The event will also feature a college fair for both high school and college students.
The conference is divided into student and professional tracks for career development and planning for careers in higher education, the federal government and the private sector.
More than 300 college students are expected to attend, in addition to higher education professionals. Workshops, roundtable discussions, networking lunches and sessions to explore fellowship, internship opportunities and international programs and building partnerships will be featured as well.
The conference will be held Oct. 28-31 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. A leadership institute for higher education professionals will be held on the 28th.
