East Tennessee State Students Trying to Raise Funding for Sex Week

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. ―Some East Tennessee State University students say they will try to raise funds online for a Sex Week program after the Student Senate turned down a funding request.

The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance had asked for $9,340 to put on a three-day event in February. It would be similar to a weeklong event at the University of Tennessee that has drawn the ire of some lawmakers.

Kathryn Travis, a member of the event’s planning committee, told The Johnson City Press that a fundraising page was started on Wednesday on crowdrise.com. She said the group hopes to raise $10,000.

Organizers say the Sex Week program isn’t designed to become a spectacle, but to create a safe and mature dialogue among adults who are sexually active.
