2nd Body Recovered From River Where Virginia State University Students Went Missing

PETERSBURG, Va. — Authorities searching for a Virginia State University student who was swept away during an in initiation ritual in the Appomattox River say they have recovered a body.

Chesterfield County police Lt. Randy Horowitz said the body was discovered Wednesday morning in the location of where the body of a fellow VSU freshman was recovered on Monday. He said the second body has not been positively identified.

Marvell Edmonson of Portsmouth and Jauwan M. Holmes of Newport News were swept away by the rapids of the Appomattox during what police have described as part of an initiation involving the group “Men of Honor.” VSU has said the little-known group is not sanctioned by the university.

Four men affiliated with the group have been charged with hazing.

Edmonson’s body was identified on Tuesday.
