Melissa Howard, a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives District 73, is accused of lying about her college degree and faking her diploma from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
After it was reported that Howard did not have a college degree, she posted a picture of her diploma online. However, Miami University pointed out inaccuracies with her diploma and stated that she attended the university from 1990-1994 but never graduated, CNN reported.
On Howard’s diploma, it showed that she graduated with a bachelor of science in marketing. However, the school “has no record of that degree” as anyone majoring in marketing would graduate with a bachelor of science in business. Additionally, while she was there, Howard was majoring in retailing which would result in a bachelor of science in family and consumer sciences degree, according to CNN.
Howard declined to comment on the accusations. Her husband was reportedly hospitalized due to a “cardiac event.” According to an interview with the Washington Post, Howard’s campaign consultant Anthony Pedicini stated that she is “focused on [her husband] right now,” and not on “fake news.”
