Former first lady Michelle Obama’s not-for-profit initiative “When We All Vote” brought award-winning artist and activist Janelle Monae to Spelman College on Thursday to mobilize Atlanta University Center students to vote in November.
Monae headlined the rally at the historically Black college, encouraging students from the collective of schools to register and head to the polls. In her remarks, she spoke about timely issues such as gun reform, women’s rights and immigration, as well as the impact of voting, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“Show up for people who care about us … and when they get in office, they can work for us,” Monae said.
