The U.S. Department of Education awarded McHenry County College a $2.25 million grant to be dispersed over five years, the Northwest Herald reported. The funding is part of the department’s Title III Strengthening Institutions Program, which aims to boost student engagement, as well as retention and graduation rates.
The grant will fund a five-year project called Pathways to Persistence and Graduation, led by Dr. Talia Koronkiewicz, vice president for student affairs.
The program will redesign academic programming to ensure students have clear steps to take toward their career goals with built-in opportunities for feedback. It will also update McHenry County College’s curricula, offer work-based learning and financial literacy education and institute new technology on campus like software students can use to sign up for courses and explore different careers.
This is McHenry County College’s first Title III grant and second major grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
