Fresh Bias Incident at Syracuse University

Even as student protests continue against racist incidents of late last year at Syracuse University (SU), a new bias incident was reported on campus Saturday, reported CNY Central.

In what was the ninth bias incident this year, a flyer about the coronavirus was found vandalized, with racist invective directed at Chinese people, said the university’s Department of Public Safety.

CNY Central said a reward is being offered for information leading to the person or persons responsible, but the publication didn’t say who was offering the reward.

#NotAgainSU, a movement led by mostly Black students, has organized a sit-in at SU’s Crouse-Hinds Hall since Feb. 17 to protest more than two dozen hate crimes at the university since November. Student protestors say no concrete action has been taken to address the racial incidents.

In response, on Feb. 24, SU said it has hired former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to lead an independent review of the institution’s Department of Public Safety after criticism over how it has dealt with the protestors.
