Racial slurs disrupted Oklahoma City University’s virtual graduation event on Saturday, reported Oklahoma’s News 4.
Martha BurgerThe event, held online because of the ongoing pandemic, was hacked as a person or persons broadcast a racial slur and a swastika during the ceremony. The event was held on Zoom, which has become the videoconferencing platform of choice for online classes and meetings but also for racist hacking.
“Although we took safety precautions, unfortunately, the digital platform we used to connect has become a target,” said Oklahoma City University president Martha Burger.
Burger said the university community is “heartbroken” from the incident.
“During a time that should have been focused on recognizing our graduating students, an unknown source was able to bypass the system and display racist and offensive language. I want to be clear, OCU stands against racism, bigotry, and anti-Semitism,” said Burger.
