The Fisk University Board of Trustees has named Dr. Vann Newkirk Sr. as the interim president of the private historically Black university in Nashville, Tenn.
Newkirk has more than 20 years of higher education leadership experience and “his expertise in accreditation matters and programmatic development is nationally recognized, and he has established himself as a leader in the education technology space.” said university officials.
Before becoming Fisk’s provost in 2018, Newkirk served as provost for three years at Elizabeth City State University. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Howard University.
