The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has announced a committee to reimagine financial aid and college admissions in the pursuit of racial equity in postsecondary education.
In particular, the committee will look at student recruitment, the application and admissions process, financial aid requirements and racial equity in enrollment. The panel’s goal is to release three sets of recommendations this summer – one for colleges regarding racial inclusion, one for higher ed leaders, and one for policymakers.
Members include – but are not limited to – Kendra Allen, associate director of financial aid special programs at Northern Virginia Community College; Tanya Ang, vice president of Veterans Education Success; Dr. Shirley Collado, president of Ithaca College; Kristen Harris, senior director of college and career success at New York City Department of Education; Luisa Havens-Gerardo, vice provost for enrollment management at Virginia Tech; Michaele Turnage Young, senior counsel for NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.; and Don Yu, chief operating officer for Reach Higher at The Common Application.
