Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange is set to become chancellor of the University of Washington (UW) Tacoma on Sept. 16. Her appointment is pending approval by the UW Board of Regents.
Currently president of Seattle Central College, Edwards Lange holds previous years of experience at UW, serving as vice president for minority affairs and diversity from 2007 to 2015. She says she is drawn back to UW for its “urban-serving mission, commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and its stellar academic programs.”
“Throughout her career, Dr. Edwards Lange has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said UW President Ana Mari Cauce. “She has been a tireless advocate for the student experience and success — particularly for students of color — in a number of academic settings, from community colleges to regional universities to research universities”
Edwards Lange holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, as well as a master’s in public administration and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies, both from UW.
