Dr. Anju Reejhsinghani Appointed UC Santa Cruz’s First Vice Chancellor for DEI

Dr. Anju Reejhsinghani will become UC Santa Cruz’s first vice chancellor for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), effective Sept. 12. Dr. Anju ReejhsinghaniDr. Anju Reejhsinghani

Reejhsinghani will also oversee the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as chief diversity officer and will report directly to the chancellor in her new capacities. She previously worked as assistant vice provost for strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion administration at University of Wisconsin at Madison (UW Madison); executive director at UW Madison’s Institute for Regional and International Studies; and tenured associate professor in the Department of History and International Studies at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

“I don’t want the conversation about DEI to be only about what can’t be done, but about what can be done,” said Reejhsinghani.

Reejhsinghani is a historian specializing in the Asian and African diasporas, Latin America, and Latinx studies. She holds a Ph.D. and a master’s in history from the University of Texas at Austin; a diploma in economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science; and a bachelor's degree in history from Princeton University.
