Report Analyzes Institutions’ Racial Justice Statements and Action Plans
After the killing of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and other Black Americans at the hands of police officers last year, many colleges and universities were quick to release statements expressing their solidarity and intent to create anti-racist campuses. Over a year later, have institutions moved from making promises to taking action? NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) sought to find out in two-part report.

Advancing Social and Racial Justice Through Higher Education
Over the last few years, there has been national attention given to the social and racial injustices against Blacks and Hispanics across the United States. As a Black man over the age of 40, the first memory of what I believe to have been a blatant display of an injustice was on March 3, 1991 when I watched the Rodney King video. Mr. King laid on the ground in a fetal position while beaten with batons and kicked in the head repeatedly by Los Angeles police officers who claimed self-defense.

Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys Can Be a Railroad for Best Practices
As the country marks the one-year anniversary of the killing of George Floyd by former police officer Derek Chauvin, questions about where the movement for social justice will go from here continue to abound. Legislative progress in directly addressing the plight of Black men like Floyd, has been an uphill battle. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act has been passed by the U.S. House of Representatives but has not yet been voted on in the Senate.

Institutions Make Curricular Changes in Response To Black Lives Matter Flashpoint
After the death of George Floyd last summer and the increase in protests against anti-Black violence, institutions began announcing plans to address racial inequity and systemic racism on campus.
