Dr. Irene Mulvey, American Association of University Professors

Dr. Irene Mulvey retired after 37 years teaching mathematics at Fairfield University, where she is professor emerita of mathematics. But Mulvey remains active as ever; she pledged to begin to reckon with institutional racism in the American Association of University Professors, and in the academy, when she was elected president of the organization in 2020. Under her leadership, the association has implemented a racial equity initiative promoting permanent, structural, and organizational change and viewing all the association’s work through a racial equity lens. She is a founding member of the association’s Fairfield chapter, serving multiple terms in leadership roles such as president of its faculty welfare committee and president of its Connecticut State Conference.
