ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A committee investigating complaints that the University of Rochester mishandled sexual harassment allegations against a professor is expanding.
The university on Thursday announced that a graduate student and faculty member will be added.
The committee was formed earlier this month to oversee an investigation into a federal complaint filed by several faculty members. The current and former employees say the university retaliated against them after they brought to light a professor’s alleged sexual harassment of graduate students.
The special committee says the addition of new members will help ensure transparency. The additions come after faculty members raised concerns about the committee’s independence.
The committee also says the lead investigator, former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, will have unfettered access to witnesses and documents within the university’s control.
