EAB Analyst: Under-Resourced Colleges Could Face Closure Due to Coronavirus
The coronavirus crisis will “accelerate a closure of colleges and universities,” especially under-resourced institutions, said a higher education analyst from EAB to Diverse. EAB, which on March 19 held a flash poll of 500 university enrollment officials during a webinar, said that the vast majority of respondents said they felt the highest levels of concern about meeting enrollment targets.

Funding and Investment in HBCUs, a Focus of Discussion on Capitol Hill
During the 2020 fiscal year, there will be a 15% increase devoted to strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities and minority-serving institutions (MSIs). Additionally, the maximum Pell grant award will increase by $150 from $6,195 to $6,345 for the 2020-21 academic year, according to the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations.

Booker Proposes Bill to Support Student Parents at Community Colleges and Minority Serving Institutions
New legislation – introduced by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker on Wednesday – could improve student life for struggling parents. The Preparing and Resourcing Our Student Parents and Early Childhood Teachers Act, or the PROSPECT Act, would offer competitive grants to community colleges and minority serving institutions to create free childcare options for student parents. Institutions could apply for up to $20 million in funding.
