McIver comes to the AAUP with extensive experience as a faculty member and leader in the higher education labor movement. McIver taught in the writing programs at the University of California, Los Angeles for fifteen years. During that time, she led seven thousand UC faculty and librarians as president of the University Council–American Federation of Teachers Local 1474. McIver recently served as the head of the California Federation of Teachers’ Universities Council, coordinating organizing, policy, and collective bargaining campaigns across AAUP chapters and AFT-affiliated unions throughout the state.
She received a Ph.D. in English literature from UC Irvine, where she held the Krieger Fellowship in Critical Theory.
