Intensive Academy Trains Leaders for Diversity and Inclusion Success
After traveling thousands of miles and coaching hundreds of individuals and teams, Dr. Damon A. Williams decided it was time to kick diversity and inclusion training up a few notches. So he established the National Inclusion Excellence Leadership Academy (NIXLA), an intensive five-week program that recently equipped 80 higher education leaders knowledge and skills to make real progress in promoting access and equity on their college campuses.

Research Design Flaws Identified in Study Suggesting That Chief Diversity Officers “Hurt” Diversity
Last week, numerous media outlets highlighted a working paper submitted to the National Bureau of Economic Research contending that Chief Diversity Officers have no influence on faculty diversification and that their presence inversely influences the diversity of tenured faculty. The articles were widely shared in social media and received a visceral response from diversity experts who questioned the motivation for the study, analytic approach, its theoretical underpinnings, and interpretation of the results.

Adelphi University Reaps Benefits of New Hiring Protocols
During last year’s recruitment process, Adelphi’s administration began conversations with faculty search committees, ultimately implementing more active search methods across all academic departments. After the first year of using these techniques, 12 of the 25 new hires are faculty of color. Administrators say this has never happened before at the university.
