Alabama State University Receives $300,000 Grant to Increase Diversity in Cybersecurity

Alabama State University has been awarded a $300,000 cybersecurity grant to increase diversity in the field, the Washington Examiner reported.

Alabama State University E1621872366370The “Increasing the Diversity in Cyber Security Through Undergraduate Research Experiences” grant will be used to increase cybersecurity graduates and ensure minority student growth in the cybersecurity sector.

“The objectives of this project are to expose highly qualified Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) underrepresented minority students to advanced topics in cyber security through undergraduate research in state-of-the-art methodologies, the use of cyber security tools through active learning, with an end goal of obtaining professional certificates, higher academic studies, and/or careers in cyber security,” said Rajendran Swamidurai, a professor and coordinator of the university’s computer science program.

$150,000 of the grant is earmarked for student support.
